Rape Crisis (England and Wales) was set up to support the work of autonomous Rape Crisis Centres in England and Wales. We also raise awareness and understanding of sexual violence in the wider community and with local, regional and national government.
We work with our member Rape Crisis Centres to achieve our three core priorities:
- Securing high quality specialist services for women and girls who have experienced sexual violence
- Building our collective expertise to improve services and policies for the benefit of survivors / victims
- Ending rape and sexual violence
Rape Crisis acknowledges all forms of sexual violence, including but not restricted to: rape, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, sexual harassment, rape within marriage / relationships, forced marriage, so-called honour-based violence, female genital mutilation, trafficking and sexual exploitation, and ritual abuse, irrespective of whether the violence is from known or unknown perpetrators.
Rape Crisis (England and Wales) wants all women and girls to be free from the fear and experience of sexual violence.
Rape Crisis (England and Wales) is a feminist organisation that exists to promote the needs of women and girls who have experienced sexual violence, to improve services to them and to work towards the elimination of sexual violence.
About Rape Crisis Centres
The first Rape Crisis Centre opened in 1973. Since then, Rape Crisis Centres have been providing frontline specialised, independent and confidential support services for women and girls of all ages who have experienced any form of sexual violence at any time in their lives.
Rape Crisis Centres offer a range of support, advocacy, counselling and information in a women-only safe space.
